Thomas Payne's Time Purgatory

When I work with vintage images, I look for photos where I feel a connection through time - as if there's a portal I can look through and get a sense of the personalities and lives of the people pictured. This gentleman, who I decided to call Thomas Payne, had a stare was so intense that I felt like he was trying to send me a message through time. From that feeling, this piece evolved, as I imagined a narrative in which Thomas had built a time machine to escape his circumstances.
